why do I sell tata harper skincare?

16 June 2012

I have always been interested in a natural diet of unprocessed whole foods and enjoying meals that are free of toxic chemicals and pesticides.  However, the safety of my beauty and hygiene products became of particular importance to me after my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Although we had always been a health conscious family, it made us re-evaluate how “clean” we really were. Why were there neurotoxins in our shampoo, aluminum in our deodorant and known carcinogens in our face cream? And most importantly, how come we never questioned these common products before?

As a society, we trust that our best interests and personal safety are a priority for the companies producing these products. We have faith that we are protected from harm by our government and its health standards. However, I realized during this significant time for my family that we are naïve to depend on these institutions. I realized the importance of educating ourselves as to what the ingredients going into our bodies really are and what they are doing. Before, I would have skimmed over the word oxybenzone in the ingredient list on my skin cream. Now I see “developmental/reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption, allergies/immunotoxicity, persistence and bioaccumulation, organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), enhanced skin absorption, biochemical or cellular level changes” (source: Environmental Working Group). But how many people see it the way I do now?

The sad answer is not enough, and that is what inspired me to open the Health Hut.  It was through the Health Hut that I was fortunate enough to meet Tata Harper and learn about her movement in changing skin care for women. Her motivation was similar to mine- after finding out her father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, she knew we needed non toxic alternatives for our personal care.

Tata Harper has not only given women toxic free options, she has redefined the perception of natural skin care. Once thought of as something only granola eating hippies would wear, Tata has proven that all natural products can be just as effective and luxurious as the top skin care lines. After working for over five years with a team of chemists and using herbs from all over the world, Tata has taken no short cuts in creating a line that is 100% non-toxic and 100% effective.

I am proud to support Tata Harper and her movement.
